Taming the Monkey Mind

“Breathing in I know that worry is in me
Breathing out I embrace my worry
like a mother embraces a child.
Breathing in - breathing out I know
that this is the only moment “
A version of the gatha as taught by Thich Nath Hanh

So, how about those Venerable Monks , huh?
In all my life, I never expected to be so uplifted,
inspired and hopeful
by the Walk for Peace.
In case you weren't aware,
20 Buddhist Monks set out from Texas, last October
for a 2300 mile walk to DC-
their purpose?
PEACE
They weren't loud, didn't carry banners, they walked
with only a simple message:
PEACE BEGINS WITH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US.
This philosophy has been the core of my teachings since I began
my spiritual journey.
(anyone remember the "harmonic convergence 1987?")
Mindfulness and Conscious Living
have been my practice for most of my life.
My first book about Mindful Eating, (The Divine Dining Method)
was written in 2007- republished in 2017)
back then, Mindfulness was not in the current
mainstream as it is today.
(see my list of all my writings below***)
I have found tremendous hope and upliftment in the past
few months by following their journey;
and one of the most inspiring things is witnessing
others awakening.
Watching other souls receive these teachings,
like watching a thirsty desert dweller drink their first sip of water.
Although I am not new to the teachings,
I found the experience to be
the breath of fresh air we didn't know we needed.

Here are my biggest take-aways from the
Walk for Peace
πWhen the focus is on the breath, the mind slows down
πMulti-tasking is not the flex that society tells us it is
πThe mind is like a wild monkey, thoughts jumping around
πSilence holds the answers to our most pressing questions
πBeing Mindful is not easy, but it's simple
πPut the damn phone down!!!
πIt's okay to have emotions (we are human afterall)
πEmotions come and go
π People are craving a peaceful world
πPeace is very quiet ; chaos is loud
πPeace is within each and every one of us
πWake up and say: TODAY IS MY PEACEFUL DAY
(write it down and say it out loud)
Those are my take-aways;
BUT,
this isn't about me;
it's just to give you an idea of the principals that have shaped my life
and my career.
This is about YOU.
What are your thoughts?
